Houlton have sponsored a group of 17 pupils from Hull Collegiate School in Anlaby who will be travelling to the Kanungu district of Uganda in July 2017.
The purpose of the visit is to teach local children and also take much needed supplies. The Kanungu district is one of the most deprived in Uganda and therefore they treasure the time that pupils and staff spend with them and the supplies they take.
Hull Collegiate School will mainly be visiting their partner School: Great Lakes High School. The children at GLHS truly value their education, as do their families, for whom an educated child is a means to escape the cycle of poverty. The school combines academia with an emphasis on science and agricultural projects to give students a practical and contextually relevant education. While the school demonstrates its commitment to sustainability by growing coffee and other crops, it is sponsorships and donations that allow GLHS to give so many children from such deprived backgrounds a strong foundation for success in adult life. Not only does GLHS provide an education but it also ensures the children have access to clean water, daily meals and boarding accommodation.
The school plans on taking things such as clothes, shoes, and stationary, as these can make a massive difference to the children of Uganda. They have very few material possessions and some of the children that the school have met before are dressed in rags.
Our sponsorship goes toward funding the visit and will see the Houlton brand reach a different continent as our logo will be on the trip T Shirt.
