Houlton Director Keith Gilson and Contracts Manager Pete Barnicoat have completed session 3 of the National Federation of Builders sponsored BIM Champions programme in readiness for the introduction of Building Information Modelling BIM Level 2 capability for public sector procured projects from 2016.

Peter is currently managing a 40 two bed apartment Extra Care Facility for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council at Beverley, the company’s first BIM enabled project awarded under the YORbuild Framework.

This is our first BIM project advises Peter and it is proving a valuable asset to our development of systems and procedures to support a BIM approach. Keith reports that the Champions programme has identified that our culture of collaborative working with a coordinated design team is ideally suited to a BIM project.

We are really talking about efficiency – during the pre-commencement phase when we have the opportunity of contributing to design and build-ability, the engagement of a BIM aware supply chain  to ensure the construction flow is optimised, and the legacy of an asset management data set that all in all will reduce whole of life costs by an estimated 20%.
