Bricklaying students from Bishop Burton College recently visited our £5.5m Extra Care sheltered housing site in Queens Road, Beverley spending over an hour walking around the site and asking our Site Manager, Scott Lilley plenty of challenging questions.

This East Riding of Yorkshire Council Extra Care sheltered housing scheme comprises 40 two-bedroom apartments and was awarded to Houlton as part of the YORbuild Framework.

It was a great opportunity for these full time college based students to experience a construction site first hand and to see exactly how a building site operates with all the trades working on site together.

The students viewed our own Bricklayers working on site whilst discussing the different aspects of what makes a great Bricklayer. Our Site Manager also explained what Houlton look for in a potential employee and gave the students a few tips on how to stand out in a crowd.

The visit was a great success and we look forward to organising more student visits with the college in the future.
