Following the launch of a major campaign to raise funds for the new Art and Design Technology Centre, Houlton are extremely proud to have been awarded this exciting project to construct the next stage of the school’s development plan.
Built in two phases and planned for completion in September 2017, the new facility will be constructed using the finest materials to a fantastic unique design to further enhance and complement the existing surroundings of the West Green campus.
Offering new artist studios, workshops and gallery space the new art and design centre will inspire current and future students for many years to come and will offer a creative and interesting backdrop for all.
Working closely with the whole team, Houlton very much look forward to the successful completion of phase one in May 2017.
The enabling works commenced in early August 2016 and the whole of the foundations to phase one were complete for the start of the Autumn term.
To allow the construction traffic and materials to access the build area, a new site road was constructed to ensure all works are diverted away from the campus activities. A 20 tonne excavator was brought in to remove and import 450 tonnes of granular fill to act as a temporary road surface that will remain in place for the duration of the build.
