Houlton’s entered into partnership with Leeds City Council through the YORbuild framework to build 32 x one and two bedroom apartments at East Park Road, Richmond Hill. The project was a 52-week contract, valued at £3m.
East Park Road was the first site to be developed as part of LCC's Council Housing Growth Programme; an ambitious programme to build almost 1000 new homes in the city.
The new homes at East Park Road occupy a site that back-to-back housing once occupied. The council demolished these properties around 20 years ago.
The new homes were designed to be flexible and adaptable to meet current and future demand. The one-bedroom flats are large enough to be converted into two-bedroom properties if needed in the future and vice versa. They also support the wellbeing of residents through good use of space and energy efficient designs to reduce running costs to residents.
Elevations to all units were designed in a contemporary style to create an individual identity and enhance the street scene. Homes include a simple palette of materials to complement surrounding dwellings.
The new homes use a combination of two types of red facing brick: a smooth solid red to the ground floor accommodation and a red multi to the first floor. Soldier courses make up the window and door heads.
The windows are grey high performance uPVC with rainwater goods, fascias and bargeboard in grey uPVC. The roof finish is grey artificial slate.
In delivering the scheme, Houlton’s worked with Leeds City Council to ensure that there were employment opportunities for local people.
