Houlton were pleased to secure this YORbuild2 project in September 2016 and our first task was to engage NPS Leeds as our Architect and Structural Engineers for this exciting scheme.

We then began to work closely with Leeds City Council and the school to meet the gateway process. These processes included feasibility, concept design, planning, developed design, cost close and approval to proceed to construction.

Due to our early involvement we were able to build a solid relationship and understanding with the client that enabled ourselves and the design team to interrogate and sometimes challenge the requirements of the scheme.

The design and costing phase was completed mid July which then gave way to the construction phase.

The scheme itself will see an element of internal remodelling to the existing building, as well as adding a new 2 storey, 8 classroom extension. The project will also benefit from hard and soft landscaping.

With the project due to be complete in August 2018 it will be ready for the new pupil intake in September of that year.

After a busy summer,  we completed phase one of the project at Fieldhead Carr. Consisting of the internal remodelling of the main entrance and office areas, the new footpath and new car park, the whole team have worked tirelessly to ensure everything is ready for the new autumn term.

Demolition work started in late July and the last wall of the internal areas was decorated on 1st September to leave a bright and welcoming new front of house area to the school.

To allow the school to function during the ‘big build’, a temporary and permanent footpath has been constructed to allow access around the new construction site. The new car park will also give the school staff and visitors adequate parking facility during the build and with the new planting scheme also complete, the new public face of the school is beginning to emerge in readiness for September 2018.

The First Phase was officially opened by Counciller Peter Gruen, Chair of Govenors.

The project is progressing well and a time lapse video of Phase Two can be seen by following the link below.
