Houlton were delighted to be named main contractor to build a new CAMHS facility for the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. The project was procured via the YORbuild framework, a £7.8m scheme, £6.2m of which are construction costs. The project involved part demolition and refurbishment of the Children's Centre on Walker Street as well as building a new facility.
The multi-million pound mental health inpatient unit for young people from Hull, the East Riding and North and North-East Lincolnshire has been handed over to the client, after a challenging construction period.
The green light was given on the 70th birthday of the NHS when the Department for Health and Social Care approved the £7.8 million of funding after concluding that Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s plans were sound and value for money.
The first phase of development involved demolishing a redundant part of the existing children’s centre, the remainder of which was refurbished, providing community and therapy services for children and young people.
The new inpatient unit is equipped and staffed to treat young people struggling with a wide range of mental health issues such as depression, severe anxiety, psychoses and eating disorders.
The new unit, has it's own school, gym, sensory room, indoor and outdoor recreational space and specially designed area for families to visit.
