The project, won in competition entailed the remodelling and refurbishment of 2 theatres in the Maternity Unit.
The unit, situated on the first floor presented challenging access issues which were overcame by erecting scaffold and accessing the building via the rear windows. Careful planning and phasing of the works ensured minimal disruption.
As well as general builders work, in terms of the remodelling, specific c importance was placed on the mechanical and electrical upgrade. The third floor roof required extensive support to accommodate the 9 tonnes of Air handling plant requited to run an air balanced system giving positive pressure in the theatres, cascading through ancillary room and trailed into the corridors..
Hygiene was paramount so high level floor finishes and cladding were used. On completion the Hospital was left with two, modern state of the art operating theatres to support the maternity wing.
