This project for Hull City Council was procured via the Yorbuild 2 framework, alongside the St Paul's Boxing Academy tender which Houlton successfully won and delivered.
Hepworth Arcade is a Grade II listed 'L' shaped Victorian arcade which is home to several of Hulls independent retailers. From a boutique bridal shop to a gin school and a chocolate shop to a market stall that stocks only eco-friendly products, there’s a strong selection available to shoppers in Hull.
Our experience in dealing sympathetically with historic buildings has been key in the ongoing project which was originally scheduled over a 24 week period.
Key elements of the project were:
Roofing - Repairs to all damaged or dislodged tiles and replacement of all defective or overly weathered lead flashings and gutters so a complete, water tight roof system was achieved.
Windows and Glazing - Restored, refinished, cleaned and had any sections of rotten timber or broken glass replaced with new to match the original design. Rain water outlets were renewed and connected to new internal down pipes in existing locations.
Stonework - Was nylon brushed to halt erosion where possible, replaced where not conservable and secured where cracks could lead to instability. All open joints were pointed in accordance with Historic England Guidelines for best practice, including avoiding cutting out with power tools.
Drainage - Repairs to below ground drainage installation; jetting to clean and clear obstructions
