The scheme comprised the refurbishment of the former Netto supermarket on Anlaby Road. The original building encompassed a detached two storey unit fronting Anlaby Road with a large single storey section to the rear.
The completed project delivered 900m2 of upgraded floor space to provide dedicated facilities for local disadvantaged groups with employment support and training. The uniqueness of this scheme was to deliver a refurbishment of an old, poorly insulated building into a highly efficient and cost effective one in terms of heating. This was achieved by introducing a sophisticated passive heating & ventilation system, high mass flooring, additional roof insulation, photovoltaic roof panels and energy efficient lighting. The scheme achieved an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating which is believed to be a first in Hull for an existing building.
