The project for Scarborough Theatre Development Trust comprised external repairs to the south east elevation tower and internal alterations mainly to the ground floor foyer, first floor theatre foyer and bar and staircase areas and was completed in two phases in 2018 and 2019 to allow for the theatre's busy schedule.
Working closely with consultants Turner and Holman, Thornton Associates (Yorkshire) Ltd., Alan Campbell Chartered Architect and Mason Clark Associates the works included:
Front of house alterations comprising removal of partition and doors between lower and upper foyer areas; cut and form 3 Nr window openings in Westborough elevation and insertion of windows; new floor finishes to lower and upper foyer areas; alterations to electrical installations to lower and upper foyer areas; alterations to box office counter and redecoration of lower and upper foyer areas.
Upper foyer work included renewal of floor finishings and redecoration of theatre foyer; alterations to theatre foyer bar; alterations to bar and servery counters; renewal of floor finishings and decoration of stairwells from theatre foyer to McCarthy Auditorium and refurbishment of passenger lift installation.
Repairs to south east (Westborough) elevation tower including erection of scaffolding inspection of brickwork, cutting out brickwork in stages to corner of tower and horizontal areas, treating exposed steelwork and rebuilding brickwork, incorporating ties; rebuilding area at top of parapet wall; repointing of high level brickwork and repairs to upper fin of tower area.
The phase 2 works included external window head repairs to Westborough elevation, Northway elevation, Hanover road elevation and works to the bar and lounge including cellar and roof over.
