Thomas Houlton - Non Executive Director

Thomas began working for the Company from a young age, doing summer jobs in the health and safety, drawings and commercial departments in the 1990's before working onsite for the Building & Maintenance Division in the early 2000's, and then going on to write copy for the promotional materials and marketing campaigns, as well as the website.

Starting in 2009 he digitised and catalogued the Company’s extensive archives, and curated an exhibition to celebrate 130 years of the Company’s history, which was opened by Hull MP Alan Johnson. The archive provides a unique photographic record of the buildings of Hull from the 1880's to the present.

Thomas read English Literature at Cambridge University and gained a Masters in Museum Studies from New York University in 2008. He has since completed a PhD at the University of Sussex and lectures in English Literature, as well as writing articles and books for academic publications.

He was appointed to the Holdings board as Director in August 2010, and a Non-Executive Director of the Company in January 2011. Thomas provides a continuing presence of the Houlton family in the Company’s operations and management meetings, supporting the current team in ensuring that the business continues to grow and develop, providing quality and excellence throughout the region. He is proud to be the fifth generation of the family to be involved in the Company.
