Houlton Named Top 50 SME Apprentice Employer 2022

The annual event run by the Apprenticeship Directorate, part of the Department of Education, invites nominations to find the top 100 apprenticeship employers in the country.

Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers 2022, which for the first time recognises the critical role these organisations play in creating opportunities, particularly for younger people and those in disadvantaged areas.

The leader boards are designed to showcase the very best of England’s apprenticeship employers, with those listed recognised for providing some of the most successful apprenticeship programmes over the previous 12 months.

The annual rankings not only showcase employers providing some of the country’s most successful apprenticeship programmes, but they help future apprentices, parents and career advisers identify opportunities with leading employers.

They also enable all employers to see what good looks like, so they can benchmark against the best and understand how they might improve their apprenticeship programmes to progress up the rankings in future.

Over 500 entries were made and, by means of a questionnaire and follow-up interview, they were shortlisted to create a top 50 and then finally ranked. Houlton placed at 27.

Two Houlton Sites Achieving Excellence with Considerate Constructors 2022

Dave Angus and Ian Peatfield, the Site Managers on our Esteem projects at Sirius Academy North and Malet Lambert respectively, received visits from representatives of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a not-for-profit, independent organisation founded in 1997 by the construction industry to improve its image.

Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the Scheme and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.

The Scheme is concerned about any area of construction activity that may have a direct or indirect impact on the image of the industry as a whole. The main areas of concern fall into three categories: the general public, the workforce and the environment.

Inspire CAMHS Unit in Hull Wins Award 2021

We are delighted that the CAMHS project carried out for Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust won the award for Project of the Year at the Design in Mental Health Exhibition & Conference 2021.

Houlton undertook the design and build project after successfully bidding via open tender with design teams novated as part of the process. The project was to deliver a new £7.8m children’s and adolescent mental health inpatient unit serving the young people of Hull, East Riding, and North / North East Lincolnshire.

Responding to NHS England’s Transforming Care agenda, putting vital care and support in the heart of the community, it is the result of a truly collaborative and inclusive delivery process. The service is brand new, so the clinical team have built up the care model from scratch, challenging the norm and aspiring for a truly unique and appropriate environment that both relates to and supports young people.

The unit includes nine general adolescent beds and four PICU beds for young people with severe and complex mental health difficulties and offers built-in flexibility and unparalleled accessibility and therapy opportunities. The unit treats young people struggling with a wide range of mental health issues, providing a comprehensive recovery focused treatment approach and education programme.

The building design draws on both UK and international design best practice and has had to overcome technical, financial and logistical challenges throughout its delivery, working beyond the latest guidance via real innovation. Constructed on a brownfield site, the design regenerates and incorporates a once derelict building, delivers BREEAM Very Good, and facilitates efficient staffing and FM delivery, meaning the finished facility is truly sustainable.

Inspire will mark a national step-change in CAMHS delivery as a service that has been shaped with young people at its heart. Young people and their families were involved in each stage of the building, identifying a suitable location, designing interiors, selecting the name and developing the services that will be used during treatment.
