Houlton is proud to support a range of charities and community initiatives each year through staff-led events, partnerships, and fundraising activities.
Each year, we support Macmillan Cancer Support through our annual coffee morning — an event filled with delicious cakes, great conversation, and a much-loved quiz. Houlton is proud to match-fund the money raised each year, helping to increase the impact of our colleagues’ generosity.
We are also proud Bronze Partners of Hull and East Yorkshire Children's University, a partnership we have supported for the past two years. Through this relationship, we regularly take part in events and initiatives including Breakfast with Santa, charity football matches, sponsoring experience days, and hosting our own work experience opportunities to inspire and support young people within our local communities.
Houlton has supported the annual Night Challenge event for over 20 years as part of our commitment to the YORbuild Humberside Police Maintenance Contract. In partnership with Humberside Police, we provide temporary toilets and lighting facilities to support this unique overnight challenge.
The event sees around 150 young people aged between 13 and 17 from across the Humberside Police area take part in a 13-mile hike through the night, navigating in complete darkness. The initiative provides young people with a positive challenge and an opportunity for adventure, encouraging them away from negative influences and towards teamwork, resilience, and personal achievement.
Following the award of the Humberside Police Maintenance Contract, Houlton has expanded its support for local community initiatives. We are proud to be a Lifestyle Supporter, contributing funding towards prizes and activities that recognise and reward participants involved in these positive programmes.
As a proud YORbuild member, Houlton regularly supports and develops initiatives that benefit local communities through the YOR4GOOD Fund. This initiative provides an opportunity to give back by investing in projects that create lasting positive change.
Through our YOR4GOOD commitments, we have delivered a range of community improvements, including:
Through these activities, Houlton remains committed to supporting local people, improving community spaces, and making a positive difference beyond the work we deliver.
As part of our commitment to supporting the next generation, Houlton believes it is vital to inspire young people, develop confidence, and provide opportunities that help prepare them for future careers.
Our Marketing Assistant regularly works with local schools to deliver mock interview sessions for Year 10+ students, providing valuable experience, constructive feedback, and guidance on interview techniques. These sessions help students build confidence and develop the skills needed when progressing into further education, apprenticeships, or employment.
We also support schools through a range of engagement activities, including providing redundant construction drawings to help students develop an understanding of technical plans and improve their ability to read construction drawings. In addition, we welcome work experience students, host site visits, and participate in other initiatives designed to give young people a genuine insight into the construction industry and the opportunities available within it.
Through these activities, Houlton continues to invest in the future workforce by encouraging learning, ambition, and career development within the industry.
