A ground breaking ceremony was held to initiate the project and was attended by the Mayor, Cllr Jenny Andrew and Mayoress, Cllr Jeanette Mallinder along with Houlton Managing Director, Andrew Kingston, who said:
" I am delighted that Houlton have secured this exciting new project and have the opportunity to continue our relationship and build on the success of previous projects we have undertaken on behalf of RMBC"
The school, has a capacity of 420 pupils up to the age of 11, and was built to serve the wider Waverley community. The project, procured via the YORbuild2 framework will deliver of a new single/two storey to form an entry school with additional single storey Autism Unit together with associated external works and landscaping.
The exterior blends into the buildings around it, and the school was also designed so that a number of its facilities, including the space set aside for its breakfast club and a purpose-built autism unit, can be opened up to community groups out of hours, without people needing to access the main building itself.
