At Houlton, apprenticeships have been at the heart of our business since our beginnings. Since the company was established in 1879, we have employed more than 350 apprentices helping generations of talented individuals build successful and lasting careers within the construction industry.
Our very first apprentice was Thomas Bishop, a bricklayer and plasterer who began his five-year apprenticeship with Houlton in November 1879. Thomas went on to dedicate an incredible 57 years of service to the company, demonstrating the long-term career opportunities and strong relationships that have always been part of Houlton's culture.
Today, that commitment remains as strong as ever. We continue to invest in apprentices across a range of trades and disciplines, providing hands-on experience, professional mentoring, and opportunities to develop the skills needed for a successful future.
Being named among the UK's Top 50 SME Apprentice Employers is a fantastic recognition of the dedication of our apprentices, mentors, and colleagues who support their development every day. We are honoured to receive this award and look forward to continuing our proud tradition of nurturing the next generation of construction professionals.
