Houlton are proud of our long association with the Lifestyle Project, a youth engagement scheme run by Humberside Police. Their recently published  Sponsors Document, highlights this years activity.

They ask young people aged 10-18 to register in teams and spend their summer holidays completing a project to benefit their community.

Since 1989, tens of thousands of young people have registered and taken on challenges that have made a huge difference to communities across the Humberside Police area.

Over the years,  some really innovative and creative projects have been undertaken. teams have renovated public spaces, raised awareness of medical campaigns, decorated children’s hospital wards, donated care packages to those in need as well as many other imaginative ventures.

There are a host of fantastic prizes on offer for the most inventive and successful projects undertaken. These include: a trip to London, UK adventure holidays, days out at Flamingo Land, Go Ape and Tockwith Racecourse and many more.

The Police school SPOCS were emailed to advise them of this process and to make contact with their schools. A follow up email was sent in July prior to the end of term. Neighbourhood Policing teams went into a number of schools across
the force area to present Lifestyle in assemblies. In addition, schools shared Lifestyle information on their websites and social media pages, .....

Care Homes
38 Children’s care homes across the force area were emailed details of Lifestyle in May and then a follow up email in July. Two Hull care homes took up the opportunity and registered residents to take part. We are pleased to report that one of these teams were a Group 2 Winner and received a track day to Tockwith. Night Challenge Team Providers All the people that registered teams for Night Challenge were emailed details on Lifestyle. Out of the 22 teams contacted, one team took up the
opportunity to register as a youth group team. These were from the North Lincolnshire Youth Justice Partnership
Intervention Team. The team repurposed some overgrown land into a community garden, lead by their intervention worker and they reached the finals. They finished as a senior runner up and have won a week at PGL Wales and an Amazon Fire Tablet each.

Example Projects
It was evident this year that the social issues facing our communities drove our Lifestylers to want to make a difference. Projects that focused on raising money and providing donations for food banks lead the way with some truly impressive results across our force area. In addition, we had litter pickers, teams that put on sports events for young people in the
community, teams that wanted to raise awareness of mental health and teams that worked on intergenerational projects bringing young and old together.

The Awards Night
The awards night took place at Jubilee Central on Wednesday 23rd November 2022 and was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the work completed by our Lifestyle teams over Summer 2022. The event was hosted by Alex & Nicola from Viking FM’s morning show. We had performances from Kingswood Academy Drum Line, NAPA and Freedom Road Creative Arts. It was a very high energy and positive evening. We received some fantastic feedback from our teams and their families.....
